After aging for nearly 3 years in American and French oak barrels, the 2019 Merlot is ready for its debut. This wine has revealed bright strawberry preserves, cola, and figs on the nose. Its medium body and angular acidity are complemented by flavors of mocha, spice, and dark berries. Fall is in sight and this wine, a favorite of our cellar crew, would settle nicely with some shepherd’s pie or warm goat cheese and bread.

Montepulciano (we call it Monte for brevity) has shown itself to be a solid and consistent wine grape grown here in Texas throughout the years. As one of the principal grapes in Italian wines from Tuscany, it naturally pairs with many cuisines - Italian dishes are an obvious choice. The earthy and jammy berry nose gains complexity as it sits in the glass and breathes, which reveals subtle notes of licorice, rose petals, and leather. It’s a smooth sipper with rich, velvety tannins with flavors of coffee and toasted almonds from time aging in French oak. Although excellent now, our winemaker thinks it still hasn’t reached its peak in bottle yet and will benefit from further aging if you can resist opening it.

Our 2019 Texas Tannat was fermented in small lots to extract the deep color this grape naturally exhibits. Aromas of dried cherry and cocoa powder mingle with cedar in the background. Lighter in body than is typical, the playful acidity is balanced nicely with flavors of jammy berries and rubbed sage, finishing with a touch of mocha from aging in French and Hungarian oak. It will pair nicely with roasted poultry or hearty vegetarian dishes such as ratatouille.

The low grape yields of the vines in 2020 helped us produce a dark ruby, brooding version of Sangiovese this vintage. Notes of cocoa-dusted strawberry, tobacco, leather, and root beer jump out of the glass. The wine sips smoothly with fine-grained tannins and flavors of smoky bramble berries. Candied cherries and vanilla on the lingering finish make it an excellent after-dinner drink or to be paired with hearty Italian dishes like osso bucco. 82% Sangiovese, 18% Alicante Bouschet.
